Tori Head, LPC-MHSP

Meet Tori Head, LPC-MHSP

Licensed Professional Counselor, Mental Health Service Provider , Tennessee

There is a difference between understanding something intellectually and feeling able to change it in real life.

You may already know that you overthink, people-please, avoid conflict, shut down, reach for a substance when things feel too loud, or repeat relationship patterns you wish you could leave behind. Insight matters, but insight alone does not always change what happens in the moment.

That is where I like therapy to become practical.

I work with adults and couples navigating anxiety, depression, self-worth, family-of-origin issues, relationship difficulties, and substance use. My role is not to tell you who to be. It is to help you slow down enough to understand what is happening, identify what is keeping the pattern in place, and build responses that fit the life you actually want.

My approach

I do not believe one therapy style fits every person. I tailor the work to what you are dealing with, how you tend to process things, and what feels useful rather than forcing you into a rigid template.

My work draws from cognitive-behavioral, strength-based, goal-oriented, and other clinically appropriate approaches. My current professional profile also lists training in CBT and DBT. Depending on your needs, our work may include noticing the thoughts and assumptions that drive a cycle, building concrete coping skills, exploring the relationship between earlier experiences and current patterns, or setting specific goals for changes you want to practice outside of session.

I value honesty, collaboration, and a therapy relationship where you can ask questions and understand why we are doing what we are doing.

Experience that shaped the way I work

I earned a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lipscomb University with a specialization in addictions.

My clinical experience has included:

  • inpatient psychiatric stabilization
  • residential substance-use treatment
  • outpatient therapy
  • intensive outpatient treatment (IOP)
  • partial hospitalization programming (PHP)

Working across different levels of care taught me to take both suffering and resilience seriously. It also reinforced something I still carry into private practice: people rarely fit neatly into one box. Anxiety can affect relationships. Family patterns can affect self-worth. Substance use can be connected to stress, grief, loneliness, trauma, or the need to quiet a nervous system that has been running hard for a long time.

The work is often about understanding the whole picture rather than treating one symptom in isolation.

I know what it is like to be on the other side of the chair

I believe good therapy requires training and clinical judgment, but it also requires humanity. I have personal experience being a therapy client, and I do not take lightly the vulnerability involved in sitting down with someone and talking about things you may not say anywhere else.

You are allowed to take time to decide whether a therapist feels like the right fit.

Nashville is home

I am a Nashville native and genuinely enjoy calling this place home. That matters to me because therapy does not happen in a vacuum. The pace of the city, family ties, work culture, relationships, community, and the pressures of everyday life all shape what people bring into the room.

Outside of work, I am usually spending time with my kids, making bread, or reading.

Who I work with

I work with adults in individual therapy and with couples. Common reasons people reach out include:

  • anxiety and feeling overwhelmed
  • depression or feeling stuck
  • low self-worth and harsh self-criticism
  • family-of-origin patterns
  • relationship difficulties
  • boundary and communication struggles
  • substance use and concerns about coping
  • life transitions

If what you are dealing with falls outside my scope or another level of care would be more appropriate, I will be direct about that and help you think about next steps.

Wondering whether we might be a good fit?

A consultation is a chance to ask questions, tell me what is bringing you in, and decide whether working together makes sense.

You do not have to solve the whole thing before you ask for help.

If you are wondering whether we might work well together, start with a conversation.
